Introduction

AS we kniow  reflection are also a vital part of the studying as this makes me think about my experiences, ideas, emotions during the learning process. This paper in the form of a reflection essay will discuss the core lessons and personel growth associated with the Child and Family Practice unit for weeks 1–10. Using this format, I will discuss the interpretations that I have formed about ethics, communication, cultural competency and professional growth, and how they have influenced my social work practice.I will be discussing about what I learnt and what I got from each week in stepwise manners with giving my views on it.

Week 1 & 2: Establishing Foundations and Ethical Practice

 Setting the base for the understanding of social work ethics and expectation of the unit were the first two weeks of the course. The first section about the AASW Code of Ethics seemed to be most beneficial as it set the foundation of the social work profession and what needs to performed as a social worker(Code of ethics 2023). I have also noticed that the right tone of the course was established at the very beginning of it – the importance of mutual respect in an open classroom. 

 

 Indeed, with this exercise, I have been able to make a comparison between what I believe in personally and what is expected of me as a health care professional. I was able to discover that my individual ethical principle is very similar to the ethical principles of social work professions but there are some areas of divergence when it comes to practice. (Tufford et al., 2021) says as example, assertiveness competence may be in conflict with conduciveness to role by supporting the individualism liberty principle that may lead to the violation of the child protection reporting requirements. This of course made me reflect on how I would handle such ethical issues in practice while being able to aligned to the professional standards as well as remain steadfast to my principles. 

 

 These first weeks of the pracicum made me realise how crucial it is to be aware of the self and to reflect in practice. As I always think about my values and their relevancy to professionalism ethics, it becomes easy for me to tackle other issues in a most professional manner. 

 

Week 3 & 4: Communication and Goal Setting

This is the third and fourth week of the course where concepts of Communication and Goal setting are discussed. 

 During the third and fourth weeks, the content covered included communications skills in particular in relation to variables such as culture in social work. Some of the most useful sessions were the ones explaining empathy and active listening since these are the foundations of trust
